Snapshot 1

  • Below is a typical example of Arsenal's shape in-possession versus West Ham United's out-of-possession shape

  • Here you can see how Arsenal transitioned into a 325 shape in-possession with five players in their forward line - within these five players, the wide and inside forwards would regularly rotate too

  • As Arsenal progressed into the final third, Kolasinac would also push up into a higher position to give Arsenal more of a 235 structure

  • Without the ball, West Ham got into a 541 shape and predominantly got into a mid / low block

Snapshot 2

  • Below is a typical example of West Ham's shape in-possession versus Arsenal's out-of-possession shape

  • Here you can see how with the ball, West Ham would transition into a 433 shape

  • Masuaku would push up into a more advanced position on the left flank which allowed Fornals to come inside and try to help West Ham in central areas, by providing an extra player in midfield and also getting between-the-lines to help link play

  • Without the ball, Arsenal would revert to a 523 / 541 shape - with Bellerin and Saka dropping into the backline and on the outside of three central defenders

  • When Arsenal were trying to engage West Ham higher up the pitch, Willian and Aubameyang would push up higher alongside Lacazette

Result

  • Half-Time = 1-1

  • Full-Time = 2-1
